Getting married is a very special time in one's life and should be celebrated and enjoyed, but many weddings are altered during the wedding planning process, and are changed based on the opinions of friends and family members. However, enjoying your wedding can be difficult when you are trying to please so many people. Although it is meant to be a celebration for the couple getting married, many times the guests are placed in front of the bride and groom.

Wedding plans get changed and manipulated for a variety of reasons. There are a multitude of people who all have a vision for the wedding in question. These people can be parents of the bride and groom, friends, wedding planner, wedding vendors, and coworkers. Everyone has their own opinion of the perfect wedding and how everything should be setup. This is compounded by the high divorce rate, which means that just about everyone knows a wedding veteran who has been wed four or more times, and they, of course, are the self-proclaimed expert. While these veterans may be a good source of information, be careful when listening to anyone's advice. Although everyone is entitled to their own opinion, not everyone is given the gift of taste or class, your wedding should be for you, not your guests. After all, do you really want your wedding to be the perfect wedding for your mother-in-law?

One of the most common issues that get changed is the size of the guest list. Many times the bride and groom will find pressure from their family and friends to invite more people than what they originally intended. This can lead to peripheral, rarely seen family members appearing at the wedding, as well as everyone you and your spouse work with, and many other people or groups you did not originally want to share this special event with.

With so many people and forces trying to alter your wedding plans, what is a person to do? The best course of action to take is to have a clear plan from the beginning and not to deviate from that plan unless it makes sense. By having a plan to serve as a roadmap, and making your intentions clear, you can avoid too many people meddling in your plans for your special day. Although you may not know every last detail, certain things can be decided on, like a rough number of people you want at the ceremony, whether you want the wedding to be extremely formal or a little more relaxed, as well as what kind of reception you will have afterwards.
